2014-2015 Ensemble-in-Residence: The LUNAR Ensemble

Lunar Ensemble

During the 2014-2015 concert season we were pleased to welcome the LUNAR Ensemble as the Ensemble-in-Residence for the 2014-2015 Program Year. The LUNAR Ensemble (in its fifth season during 2014-2015) presented three concerts during the season, and select members also contributed to the Evensong series and performed on Sunday mornings.

The LUNAR Ensemble aims to engage audiences through creative programming and inspiring performances. A proponent of music by living composers, LUNAR actively promotes the careers of emerging composers not only through performance, but also through short- and long-term residencies. During the 2014-2015 season, Dr. Douglas Buchanan, Director of Music Ministries, held one of these residencies, and his compositions were included on performances during LUNAR's residency at St. David's.

LUNAR is directed by the phenomenal conductor Gemma New. Praised for her "absorbing and well-honed performance," New currently serves as the Associate Conductor of the New Jersey Philharmonic, and has previously conducted the Baltimore and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras, the BBC Scottish and Danish National Orchestras, and has served as guest cover conductor for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
