Michael Rickelton

We are excited to announce our 2016-2017 Composer-in-Residence, Michael Rickelton!

Michael is a fabulous choral composer, with numerous prizes to his name, including the Bluffton College Choral Composition Contest, the Ithaca College Choral Composition Contest, the Meistersingers Choral Composition Contest, the Gregg Smith Choral Composition Contest, and the Pacific Choral Young Composers Competition. His works have been performed by the Washington National Cathedral Choir, The Bridge Ensemble, Canticum Novum and broadcast on WYPR. A devoted choral singer as well, Michael has sung with choirs at St. David's, Old St. Paul's, the National Shrine, and Baltimore Choral Arts.

In addition to performances of his works throughout the year, the Choir of St. David's Episcopal Church will present a newly commissioned anthem, a setting of Madeleine L'Engle's text "Into the Darkest Hour," at the Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols on December 18, 2016.

Michael is St. David's second Composer-in-Residence. The program began in 2015-2016 with our inaugural composer, Tariq Al-Sabir, who composed a new setting of Preces and Responses premiered at the Evensong in Honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
